I was diagnosed with adhd back when only boys had adhd, I was 17, I am now 47 this month and every day of my life has been a struggle. My cousin who’s daughter is adhd told me to contact you. I also have a nearly 21 year old adhd(not yet diagnosed)/asd(diagnosed) daughter who also needs help. I have gone to gps, spent thousands on phycologists begged for help just to be present in my life so I can help my daughter and so I can live my life.i see things are finally changing for us girls but I honestly don’t know where to start, I went to my gp for help and he said find someone that deals with it and I’ll give you a referral… clearly has no understanding about adhd or lack of professionals that deal with women with adhd. I think that was over 12 months ago. Honestly if I didn’t have kids battling the same battle I don’t think I’d be here anymore. I have let my daughter down because I can’t get my own shit together. Please help, please tell me how to get help without a million hurdles and books closed in our face. Every time we find someone their books are closed. How the hell do we, without executive functioning, navigate this path with the doors all closed? My daughter attends headstart, the psychologist she sees has been amazing but hasn’t really been able to help beyond the autism, the psychiatrists she told us to go to have had books closed for years. Is there a list of psychologists that have open books? If we have to wait we will, I mean what’s another year or so right?
Anyway thank you, sorry I seem like a lost cause but I feel it wouldn’t be like that if we only had the help we need to live a productive, present life
